Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) under the Higher Education Department, Government of Kerala implemented effective online strategies to assist educational institutions in Kerala to resume and maintain the momentum of the learning process and other academic activities during the nationwide lockdown. For this, ASAP associated with the Universities and Department of Technical Education, and provided an online platform for the transaction of the regular classes.

The world entered into uncharted waters with the global health crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic. A pandemic of this intensity is the first of its kind in this globalised world. The primary preventive measure in tackling this contagious disease is practising social distancing. Many countries have imposed lockdown in containing the spread of the disease.

The unprecedented turn of events have made us look for multiple solutions to trigger learning and knowledge sharing. The education sector was affected with the disruption of classes due to lockdown. The Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) under the Higher Education Department of the Government of Kerala decided to implement effective strategies to bring back the system live with the aid of virtual tools. ASAP’s action plan aimed at revamping the academic circle by helping the educational institutions in Kerala to resume and maintain the momentum of the learning process and other academic activities. For this ASAP will work with the universities and provide an online platform for the transaction of the regular classes.

In the context of the crisis a Video Conference was held on 15th April 2020 by the Hon’ble Minister for Higher education with the Vice Chancellors of the State Universities to discuss measures to tackle the situation. The direction issued vide G.O.(Rt)No.527/2020/HEDN dated,18/04/2020 requested Universities to partner with ASAP in the webinars and online classes for college students. ASAP arranged online live classes for the students of State universities with an aim to cover the unfinished portions in association with the Universities, Arts and Science Colleges, Engineering Colleges and Polytechnics. The classes were scheduled from Monday to ASAP arranged online live classes for the students of State universities with an aim to cover the unfinished portions in association with the Universities, Arts and Science Colleges, Engineering Colleges and Polytechnics. The classes were scheduled from Monday to Saturday (09.30 am to 05.00 pm) with separate time slots for students from different streams. Special teams led by Heads of Divisions and Programme Managers in ASAP were formed to liaise with the concerned educational institutions with regard to collection of data on unfinished portions and faculty members, schedule sessions, develop digital promotional material including posters and videos, mobilize students for the classes, conduct classes with faculty members and document their videos. Videos documented have been uploaded in ASAP YouTube Channel for the benefit of students who missed the classes for unknown reasons. .
