India has the second largest geriatric population in the world. With life expectancy increasing significantly, home health care is becoming mandatory. Alongside, there is now a sizable population in India that needs and is willing to pay for these services. The concept of old-age homes or assisted living is socially largely unacceptable in India and therefore better home-based health care facilities are becoming an imperative. It is estimated that for an average individual, 70% of health care needs can be met in the home environment.
The course shall equip successful trainees with skills required to provide routine individual healthcare to the elderly, convalescents, or persons with disabilities at the patient’s home; monitor or report changes in health status; and provide personal care such as bathing, dressing, and grooming of patient. Trainees shall be trained to assist patient in bathing, grooming and dressing-up; support patient to eat and drink; assist individual in maintaining normal elimination; prevent and control infection in the home setting; communicate with geriatric/paralytic/ immobile patient; enable geriatric/paralytic/ immobile patient to cope with changes to their health and well-being; implement interventions with geriatric/paralytic/immobile patient at risk of falls; work effectively with others; manage work to meet requirements; maintain a safe, healthy and secure environment; practice code of conduct while performing duties, and follow biomedical waste disposal protocols

150 hours of internship at health care centers
Assessment and Certification:
Continuous assessment is carried out by the Training Service Provider and final assessment by an independent assessor, assigned by the Sector Skill Council. Certificate will be issued by Government of Kerala and the Sector Skill Council, to successful trainees.
· Students enrolled in Standard XI in any stream;
Students who have successfully completed ‘Aptitude Test’ and ‘Personal Interview’.
