Industry Highlights:

Micro-irrigation involves irrigation of crop at their root zone as per the crop requirement using appropriate technology like drip systems, sprinkler systems, etc. Apart from huge improvement in water use efficiency, this technology can also be used to facilitate optimal and effective application of fertilizers. To promote micro-irrigation in a big way, the Government of India launched the National Mission on Micro-Irrigation (NMMI) in which 40% of the cost of the MI system will be borne by the Central Government, 10% by the State Government and the remaining amount will be borne by the beneficiary either through his / her own resources or loan from financial institutions[1]. This Mission is expected to result in 2.85 million hectare being brought under micro-irrigation; savings in use of irrigation water, fertilizer and electricity; increase in crop production and productivity; and convergence with other ongoing schemes[2].

 

Course Highlights:

The course shall equip successful trainees with the knowledge and skills required for effective application of micro-irrigation techniques during crop cultivation. Trainees shall be trained on identification of micro-irrigation tools and equipment, design and layout of micro-irrigation systems, installation of micro-irrigation systems, handling routine services of tractors and maintenance and repair services of micro-irrigation systems, practicing health and safety measures at work-place, etc

·         Knowledge of basic arithmetic and algebra principles, Designing skills

·         Ability to work independently

·         Good analytical skills, decision-making skills and problem-solving abilities

Internship:
150 hours of internship with farms and nurseries

Assessment and Certification:

Continuous assessment is carried out by the Training Service Provider and final assessment by an independent assessor, assigned by the Sector Skill Council. Certificate will be issued by Government of Kerala and the Sector Skill Council, to successful trainees.

Eligibility:

·         Male students enrolled in Standard XI in any stream; / Male students enrolled in 1st year of Bachelor’s Degree course in any stream;

Male students who have successfully completed ‘Aptitude Test’ and ‘Personal Interview’
