SEEK’13: A paradigm shift in educational arena of Kerala                                    


Skill Enterprise Engagement for Empowering Kerala (SEEK’13)”, a national level business summit to channel the expertise of Industry, Legislators, Training and Assessment Service Providers for creating a skill development regime for the State, was held at Mascot Hotel and Co-bank Towers on November 5th and 6th . The event was organised by Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) in association with NSDC.


SEEK’13 was formally inaugurated by, Shri.Oommen Chandy , Hon.Chief Minister of Kerala and was presided over by Shri. P.K.Abdu Rabb , Hon.Minister for Education. Dr.K.M.Abraham, IAS delivered the inaugural speech. Shri. P.K. Abdu Rabb released ASAP annual report during the occasion. Shri.G.Vijayaraghavan, Member, State Planning Board, gave the special address. Shri.Keshavendra Kumar, IAS proposed vote of thanks.

SEEK ’13 was a landmark event in the educational sector of Kerala. SEEK’13, through its business, technical and knowledge sharing sessions provided a platform to engage, converge and generate new partnerships in skill space. SEEK’13 resulted in valuable strategic alliances with the potential to open up new and innovative avenues for fulfilling the aspirations of the youth in Kerala. At SEEK’13, various stake holders in the skill arena have joined hands with ASAP to carve a skilled workforce who will function as the economic spine for development. MoU s were signed between Govt. of Kerala and Institute of Palliative Medicine- Calicut, Gems and Jewellery Sector Skill Council, Telecom Sector Skill Council, Agriculture Sector Council of India on 6th of November. Through the skill programmes that evolved from SEEK’13, Additional Skill Acquisition Programme pertains to create a vibrant skilling and training eco-system in Kerala.



Field launch of ASAP

The filed launch of Additional Skill Acquisition Programme was held at Women’s college, Trivandrum on 6thNovember 2012.Inauguration of the programme was by Hon’ble Chief Minister Oomen Chandy and the function was presided over by Shri.Abdu Rabb, Hon’ble Minister for Education.

Curriculum committee formation

Being a skill acquisition programme, the curriculum of ASAP needs to be more pratical oriented than conventional curriculums. Therefore a meeting was organized for curriculum committee formation. Academicians and industry experts convened to form the Communicative English curriculum.

MLA meeting at Planetarium, Thiruvananthapuram

Meeting for the MLAs were held at Planetarium Hall, Trivandrum.  The meeting was presided over by Hon’ble Minister for Education. The meeting intended at briefing the MLAs about ASAP. Several discussions regarding the programme went on and fruitful suggestions came up. The MLAs assured to give quality trainers in areas where proficient trainers were not available.

Selection of Skill Development Executives - Phase 1

For selecting the Skill Development Executives (SDEs) advertisements were given in leading newspapers, channels and ASAP website. The SDEs were selected after NAAC test and interview. The interview panel consisted of communication skill experts and industry representatives. Later on the SDEs were trained to transact communication and IT skills to students. Activity oriented teaching tips helped the SDEs to identify many activity oriented teaching strategies that can be implemented in class rooms.
