ADDITIONAL SKILL ACQUISITION PROGRAMME

The General Education and Higher Education, Departments of Kerala State Government in India jointly launched an Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) as part of State Skill Development Programme to enhance the employability of students passing out of Higher Secondary Schools  as well as Arts and Science Colleges in the state.

 Historically Kerala has been a prominent supplier of skilled human resource to the rest of the world. But now, in accordance with the requirements of the fast changing world, though Kerala has an amazing pool of Human Resource, the overall employability is far less than the required standard.

ASAP has been conceived as an effective remedy for this situation. The idea is to provide the students skill training, in addition to their regular academics, in the crucial sectors based on needs demanded by the Industry. Thus when they complete their regular academic programmes students will also get additional skill certifications. This will ensure them job opportunities immediately on completion of each stage of their academic programme. Thereafter they can go for full time job or can opt for part-time jobs and continue with their higher studies.

The programme is implemented in Government and Aided Educational Institutions.  All the training programmes shall have an initial round of soft skill development (Communicative English and IT) followed by the intensive training in the skill domains selected by the student. The focus of the foundation course is to develop soft skills that are essential to work efficiently in a corporate environment. The skill courses are conducted at selected Skill Development Centers. Over 1050 institutions are enrolled under ASAP and 121 Skill Development Centers for providing skill training through out Kerala. Several Mile stones had been laid down by ASAP. ASAP has excelled in managing human resources and diversified its role in development of efficient trainer pool and standardization of Skill training with stringent Quality control measure.
