FAQs

● Many lawyers want to move from litigation and other practice areas into practicing corporate law. The economic incentive is huge and many dream of working in top law firms as a corporate lawyer. However, it is incredibly hard to make this transition without proper skill training, building a track record and developing relationships. We have created a blueprint for lawyers that really works, which we have explained through our many free resources. Through this course, you can execute this blueprint with guidance and handholding from our team. ● Many law students want to become a corporate lawyer, but find all avenues closed as they fail to secure even internships with the right law firms that would open the doors for a corporate law career. Through this course, we provide them a 2 year roadmap to execute. It involves learning relevant skills, building a relevant track record, getting internships at boutique law firms, then bigger law firms and eventually getting a PPO in either a big law firm or boutique law firm. ● There is no need to worry if you don’t get into a big law firm in your first job. Get into the practice area with a smaller law firm with the right skillset and you could soon laterally move to a larger law firm. We are here to guide you through all that. ● What if you want to start your own small practice as a corporate lawyer and grow from there? Even that is possible. We will provide you guidance, case studies and advice to build a freelance practice in this area dealing with early stage startups. ● We created a Pareto Principle (80/20 rule) based curriculum. This means we teach you the most frequently used skills first, so that you are a useful resource to your employer from day 1. For the rest, you get a huge database on ‘how to do stuff’ from LawSikho which you can use when the need arises, even while you are working in a job or with your clients. But thanks to our Pareto Principle based training, you seem smarter than your competition who is trying to swim the vast ocean of knowledge without a life jacket. ● We make the journey easy, predictable and shorter. But still it is a journey, and you are the one who has to undertake the journey. We built this course for motivated people who are ready to be coachable and put in the work. Without the effort, patience and hustle from your side, we can’t ensure your eventual success.

Yes. We have two kinds of students. Some already have good legal skills. Others are learning legal skills from us but not good enough to use those skills professionally yet (may take anywhere between 3-12 months to get there depending on their pace). We have two different teams to help these two kinds of people. Those who have legal skills such as contract drafting, data & privacy, international business law, US immigration law, litigation support, international IP law work etc do such work. But we do not want you to wait till you learn such skills (which can take a good amount of time) before you start earning. Your learning goes to the next level when you see that you are earning from your learning and by learning more you can double or triple your income. There are few incentives like dopamine hit in your brain that comes from earning. Nothing feels better than hard cash RoI that you get from investing in yourself. That is a great motivator for doing the hard work that you have to do for setting up your career for success. This is a great differentiator between how things are taught in school and college and how we teach in LawSikho. For those who don’t have professional level legal skills yet, we help them to get other kinds of work such as writing articles, research, legal transcription, article writing, data entry, law firm admin, social media management, etc. Some people even do work like voice over, data compilation, translation, virtual assistant etc. When they start earning and see for themselves that they can earn if they work, they start focusing on their course much better. Our team keeps sharing suitable opportunities with them as we are always monitoring platforms like Upwork, People Per Hour & others. We have also set up a dedicated team that is always pitching to organizations in the US to help LawSikho students find remote work. We set up an entity in the US as well to bridge the trust gap an US lawyer, startup or law firm may have with an organization operating from

Lawyers and law students who want to work as corporate-commercial / transaction lawyers Bankers and officers in banks and NBFCs responsible for business decisions Lawyers looking to specialize in M&A, Banking and Investment Law Lawyers looking to build a corporate transactional practice Law students looking to work in corporate law firms or big 4 consultancy firms Law students looking to work in banks Lawyers working for technology and e-commerce companies with regular M&A activities (Google, Facebook, Amazon, Uber etc.) Entrepreneurs and directors who want to master the legal aspect of raising capital

M&A, investment law and perhaps even banking law constitutes large areas of practice for all major law firms. If you want to work in a big law firm, these are the subjects to learn well. These practice areas all deal with the raising of capital – either as equity or a loan. This is a high priority activity, and one of the best paid legal work. M&A and investment lawyers mostly work at law firms, and law firms often have large banking practices too, catering to lenders as well as borrowers. Banks, NBFCs and financial institutions hire a lot of lawyers with skills in banking transactions. Knowledge of Investment law, M&A and due diligence will be an additional advantage. Apart from tier 1 and tier 2 law firms, there are plenty of boutique law firms and many lawyers catering to startups and SMEs who also need these same skills and make very good money. PE and VC investments are increasing by leaps and bounds. India is attracting over 50 Billion USD in Foreign Direct Investment every year, which has been steadily growing over the years irrespective of economic cycles. All these deals require an increasing number of deal lawyers. External Commercial Borrowing, i.e. raising money from other countries that have lower interest rates compared to India has been increasing as RBI has been continuously relaxing norms over the years. Between 2004 and 2014 it grew sevenfold. It has also emerged as the preferred option for big companies to raise debt. We are yet just scratching the surface. There is a lot to be done in the next 3 years. As a result, lawyers who can handle cross border financing transactions are in very high demand. If you want to pick up some expertise and knowledge on M&A, investment and banking laws, this is a great time if your ambition is to work as a corporate lawyer. It will definitely go a long way to make your CV stand out, impress the interviewer, get the next promotion, or even start your own practice. You cannot learn these things by studying any particular laws, regulations or rules, and there are no adequate books that can help you here. Success in transactional law practice requires skills that are more varied than merely knowing the provisions of various statutes.
