FAQs
The NMC OSCE is an Objective Structured Clinical Examination conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) for overseas nurses and midwives seeking registration to practice in the UK.
Overseas nurses and midwives who have successfully completed the NMC CBT (Computer-Based Test) and other registration requirements may need to take the OSCE as part of their registration process.
The OSCE assesses the candidate’s practical clinical skills and ability to apply theoretical knowledge in simulated clinical scenarios relevant to nursing or midwifery practice.
The OSCE evaluates a range of clinical skills, including communication with patients, medication administration, wound care, vital signs assessment, and emergency response.
Preparation for the NMC OSCE typically involves practicing clinical skills under simulated conditions, familiarizing oneself with the OSCE format, reviewing relevant clinical guidelines, and attending preparatory courses.
ASAP Kerala is providing a comprehensive training for Nurses for OSCE preparation with expert trainers coming from UK. The sessions are held in direct classroom mode. The course will be conducted at ASAP Community Skill Parks in Kalamassery and Pampady, which have well-equipped and maintained AR/VR labs. The training sessions will utilize advanced simulation technologies available in these labs.
The students will be provided a certificate of proficiency. They can directly apply for taking the OSCE test in the UK or apply through NHS recruiting partners.
The OSCE is usually conducted at designated NMC-approved test centers in the UK. The scheduling of the OSCE is arranged by the test center and is subject to availability.
The duration of the OSCE varies depending on the number of stations but typically lasts several hours, with each station lasting around 10-15 minutes.
Each station in the OSCE is scored based on predefined criteria, and candidates must achieve a passing score in each station to pass the overall exam.
If a candidate fails the OSCE, they are usually allowed to retake the exam after a specified waiting period, typically around 28 days. However, candidates should refer to the NMC guidelines for accurate information on retake policies.
There is no limit to the number of times you can retake the OSCE. However, there may be additional fees associated with each attempt.
After passing the OSCE, candidates can proceed with the final steps of the NMC registration process, which may include additional checks and verification before receiving their registration to practice in the UK.
