The Certificate IV in Cyber Security (22603VIC Certificate IV in Cyber Security ) is a technician-level qualification designed to prepare you for a role in cyber defence. Students will gain foundational knowledge in threat analysis, risk management, incident response, and network security. The program includes in-depth study of cyber-security frameworks such as the Essential Eight, ISO-IEC 27001, and NIST CSF. Hands-on labs and real-world case studies ensure practical experience in vulnerability management, penetration testing, cloud security, and forensics.
To successfully complete the 22603VIC Certificate IV in Cyber Security, applicants are advised to have the following foundational knowledge:
- Basic familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Basic understanding of computer networks, including networking protocols, IP addressing, and the configuration of routers and switches (both through command line and basic setup processes).
- Basic awareness of cyber security laws, including a commitment to follow legal frameworks such as the Information Technology Act, 2000 (IT Act), Cybercrime Act 2001, Spam Act 2003 (Cth), International Regulations and frameworks such as the Budapest Convention (2001), NIST CSF & the UN Cybercrime Treaty (2023) that prohibit hacking, spreading malware, and other cyber offences.

You will be awarded a nationally recognised Certificate IV in Cyber Security (22603VIC). If you don’t complete the full program, you can receive a Statement of Attainment for the individual units you pass.
It’s recommended that you have a basic understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems, knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., IP addressing, routers/switches), intermediate literacy and numeracy skills, and familiarity with cyber-law frameworks (such as the Cybercrime Act).
There are three elective streams you can choose from — Network Security, Cloud Security, and Infrastructure Security — allowing you to tailor your learning to your career interests.
The course includes theoretical learning combined with practical, hands-on laboratory sessions. You will also work on real-life case studies and mock simulation scenarios to build problem-solving skills. The whole course will be transacted in an online environment.
